I’m Helen Galliott, an integrative counsellor, offering therapeutic counselling to adults in North Bristol and online.
My decision to become a counsellor grew from my own experiences of how difficult it can be to find someone who truly understands what you're going through. I also experienced the challenges of trying to find the right support for my children when their needs didn't fit neatly within the systems designed to help them.
These experiences shaped my understanding of how important it is to feel heard, understood and supported, particularly when you feel that you don't quite fit or that the help you need is out of reach.
They inspired me to become part of the solution by offering a space where you can speak openly, feel accepted and be met with compassion rather than judgement. My hope is that, through our work together, you can feel safe enough to explore your experiences at your own pace and feel less alone with whatever you're facing.
Person-centred
Empathy, acceptance, respect and genuine understanding are at the heart of my work. I want you to feel heard and accepted for who you are, without judgement.
Integrative
I draw on different therapeutic approaches where they may be helpful, adapting our work to your individual needs and experiences.
Collaborative
We work alongside one another. Rather than telling you what you should do, I offer space to explore your thoughts and feelings, helping you develop a greater understanding of yourself and what feels right for you.
Through my counselling practice, I have experience supporting adults with a wide range of personal, emotional and relational challenges.
Areas of my work include:
Emotional Wellbeing: Exploring anxiety, panic, low mood, emotional overwhelm, shame and perfectionism.
Identity & Behaviour: Working with self-worth, confidence, people-pleasing, unwanted behaviours and finding your voice.
Relationships & Life Changes: Exploring family and relationship difficulties, parenting, life transitions, grief, loss and difficult life experiences.
Faith & Meaning: Offering an open, non-judgemental space to explore spirituality, doubt, questions of faith and changes in belief.
Neurodiversity: Exploring experiences relating to neurodiversity, including feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood or different.
Trauma & Difficult Experiences: Exploring the impact of trauma and difficult experiences. I am trained in the Rewind trauma technique, which research suggests may help reduce distress associated with traumatic memories.
Alongside my private counselling practice, I am involved in peer support for parents of children with special educational needs (SEN).
This work offers parents a space to share their experiences and explore the challenges that can come with navigating their child's needs, including the emotional demands and potential burnout of parenting a neurodivergent child or young person.
My community work has deepened my appreciation of how important it is for people to feel heard, understood and validated, while recognising that every individual and family has their own experiences and needs.
